THE shared executive Malvern Hills District Council debate of June 24 was a night of choking smoke – the Tory leadership feebly trying to reassure their wide-eyed like-cattle members that smoke was good for them.

The opposition cleverly countered the leadership's arguments with surgical precision, warning that the glitter of a golden central government bribe was blinding Tories.

The leadership only succeeded in the debate by the casting vote of the chairman.

There was never a more urgent need for residents to scrutinise anything that mentions Wychavon, for it is widely feared that Malvern Hills District Council has sentenced itself to death.

Residents overwhelmingly prefer local authorities to be just that – local.
