WITH regard to the Sling Lane playing fields and Newtown football club laying the blame on Railtrack, the culvert always flooded long before work started and it is questionable anyway as to whether this has anything to do with Railtrack.

Surveyors should have been perfectly well aware of this and addressed the issue at the time.

Considering the furore this 'enhancement' caused – and the extortionate expense – there should be no excuse for what amounts to incompetency on every level.

Where landscaping was promised we are now presented with a derelict open space, temporary fencing which contractors appear to refuse to take away due to unpaid costs, and broken bollards at either end of the drive (with the bollards themselves simply tossed in the undergrowth).

The space has been ruined for good and Newtown football club have already demonstrated they have no regard for residents or the local community by the slapdash way the whole project has been managed, and which I fear sets the tone for the future.

It is a crying shame that this must-have for a single interest group has simply lowered the tone of what was once an oasis enjoyed by all.
