I WAS very surprised to read the criticism of the Chace Rest Home in the Gazette (August 29).

My mother lived at the home for more than four years up until she died in June of this year. She suffered from advanced dementia.

The care provided by the home was in my experience faultless, and the staff and management were always professional friendly and helpful.

I fear that the report is an example of tick-box auditing, which the Government seems to think is an adequate replacement for a proper inspection concentrating on the important aspects of the care provided by the home.

The report from the Care Quality Commission does not in any way reflect my experience of the home over the time my mother was resident there.
