MAY I follow on from earlier comments, most recently from Ken Wright (November 7).

At the recent Britain in Bloom national awards ceremony Malvern received a silver gilt award, narrowly missing out on gold; and was listed as one of the top five towns in Britain for the RHS tourism award.

All of this means that while we have been congratulated at national level for our efforts to date, if we are to achieve the gold standard and win the titles of best large town in Great Britain, and also the RHS tourism award all residents have a duty of care and must play their part.

So if you have a hedge bordering the road, please ensure that it does not encroach onto the pavement; that trees with low branches overhanging footpaths do not impede pedestrians; that weeds growing in your front path, or otherwise in front of your house, are removed.

The judges who visit us take note of the gardens that they pass as they journey around the town, and proper control of hedges, trees, and removal of weeds will help us to achieve higher marks and the coveted top awards which have so far eluded us.

It should not be beyond us, but insofar as some residents do have hedges or trees which impede pedestrians please bring them under control.
