I RESPOND to Sam Verity’s letter, ‘Will candidate move here to reduce carbon footprint’ (January 15).
If I was elected MP for West Worcestershire I would move and live in the constituency, just like MP Harriett Baldwin, born in Watford, worked in London at the time, and moved here after being elected.
It feels like I already live here because after being selected as a candidate I made a commitment to spending up to two days a week in the constituency, sometimes more, to campaign on the issues that really matter.
In addition, I spend at least another two days or more while outside the constituency talking to constituents either on the phone, by email or through social media outlets.
If elected, one of my priorities would be to cut our local carbon footprint.
But I’m not waiting until then, and plan to minimise my personal energy consumption throughout the campaign.
I already use a Smart car that gives 70 mpg, but also I’ll be using buses, cycling and walking wherever and whenever I can.
Dennis Wharton
Liberal Democrat candidate for West Worcestershire
