I WAS extremely disappointed, but not at all surprised by the Conservators' decision to vote down the suggested hills cable car.

It shows both negative thinking and a dog-in-the-manger attitude.

Its route would be unseen over much of the hills, there would be a great many walks and views available to those who don't wish to see it.

I am sure that such an amenity would bring many visitors to Malvern, which would benefit local business.

As one of your previous correspondents remarked, the town appears to be dying on its feet, with shops closing and remaining empty.

There are also many elderly and disabled people who would love the opportunity to reach the summit of the hills.

Of course, it would require a cafe on the top (there was one for many years), but the proposed design seems to me to be reasonable unobtrusive.

Have non of the antis ever visited the great mountain ranges of Europe? The variety of lifts available, complete with attendant restaurants, do not ruin either the peace or the beauty of the mountains.
