HAVING been a regular visitor to Malvern for many years I was concerned to read in your newspaper of a proposal by Malvern for All, to build a cable car to the highest point on the Malvern Hills.

Due to increasing years, I am no longer able to complete the short, stiff climb to the ridge. Would I appreciate a trip in a cable car to enjoy those spectacular views? Absolutely not. The Hills, an AONB, should be guarded with care and wherever possible left alone. This is a wild, ancient and unspoilt place. I believe it is this sense of timelessness which makes the area unique, what the thousands of people who visit the Hills come to experience as they walk, wander and wonder.

If the object of this proposal is to make Malvern more attractive to visitors, then maybe those with commercial interests, all local councils and local people, should join together to consider ways of encouraging people to spend more time in your town, other than desecrating the beautiful landscape. Incidentally the last time I was in Malvern on a Sunday afternoon over half the shops were closed: food for thought maybe?
