AT the age of 76, well layered and with walking poles for company, guess where I was on March 1?

Guess, too, what I was looking at, and it had nothing to do with staring at the brown winter bracken at my feet, rather out to the horizon. Absolutely magnificent.

In case anyone missed the mention, the e-petition website address is: epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/74748 (against the cable cars) and e-petitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/74752 if you are for the cable cars).

I have signed the latter. This is my profound belief having read a lot of the arguments over the past few weeks and then the reasons given in the 'against petition'.

There is so much misleading information as to be unbelievable, for instance whoever has seriously mentioned turning Rose Bank Gardens into a car park?

As a result of my experience on the March 1 I also have to say that the conservators need to have more concern for their duty of care to those on the top of the Beacon.

It was absolutely freezing up there and blowing a gale so no one was hanging about to enjoy the view. We couldn't wait to get out of the wind down the east side of the hill. A decent shelter while we enjoyed the views would have been a godsend.

Finally, my really big challenge was getting over the rocks back onto the path.

I wouldn't have managed it at all without the help of the lovely young lady who tucked my arm under hers and who steadied me down to the path.

A couple of steel poles sunk into the rocks with a rope handhold would not cost a huge amount.

Many tourist attractions provide these as a matter of course. But then I expect there would be objections to quarrying the rock for the posts.
