IT really was the most important potting shed in town!

Malvern Hills District Council southern area development committee has refused permission to demolish this curtilage listed building.

This is a triumph for democracy, and shows that it is possible to influence the planning system with research and by organising objections.

I would like to thank the 90 objectors, including the residents and staff of Hastings House Residential Home, the Malvern Civic Society, the Georgian Group, Rock Davidson Associates and many others. My thanks also go to the planning authority, who listened to the objectors, studied the heritage statement prepared by Rock Davidson Associates and were prepared to overturn the recommendation to demolish from the conservation officer, who is no longer employed by the council.

The councillors considered the issues carefully, presenting both sides of the argument, and voted overwhelmingly to refuse permission to demolish the shed. There were no objections. A big thank you to them all.

It was an important decision to protect the precedent of preserving listed buildings and the rich heritage of Malvern.

Signed by the residents of Hastings Pool.
