MALVERN to be the Ageing capital of the UK (Gazette, March 27)? What a surprise!

Having lived in West Malvern for the last 28 years it comes as no revelation whatsoever.

Malvern has developed over the years with a real focus on the provision of varying forms of housing development aimed solely at the over 55s.

The level of provision has been such that in order to fill the available accommodation people have gravitated from outside of the town.

This influx impacts on a whole range of service provision, such as health care, social care and leisure. In catering for this increasing older population the concerns and needs of those with new and growing families and young people are being overlooked.

For Malvern to thrive, prosper and develop in a sustainable way, attention should be focused on attracting younger people to the town to live, work and engage in leisure.
