THIS year presents us with an election fiasco – two elections – national and district.

How does one vote knowing there is so little difference between parties and that promises made in the heat of pre-election fervour will be forgotten by May 8?

It would appear that there is only one way and that is to vote, regardless of party, for the candidate who has proved their worth by serving their community faithfully and well without self-interest.

At district level, of course, this applies to a greater degree, politics being irrelevant.

Local elections are far more important here as our everyday wellbeing depends upon the election of an individual who truly has community interests at heart.

Do we vote mindlessly based on our national political stance or do we say “No” and refuse our vote based on track record?

If a candidate has proved their worth regardless of party – vote for them.

Be warned against voting for candidates who have acted only in self-interest whether to make a name for themselves or who, at the expense of the community they were elected to nurture, have feathered their personal nest.

Vote for the independent candidate every time as they are most likely to be genuine in their standing.

Ensure your candidate knows that being a councillor is more than sitting on a committee for an annual fee.

Done conscientiously it is hard work and graft.
