LAST week's letters pages contained just one brief letter related to the general election results.

Hardly surprising when the local outcome was a foregone conclusion.

Congratulations to Harriett Baldwin for such a thumping increase in her majority, but did anyone – including the other candidates – seriously think she could be unseated in a constituency with so many comfortable middle-class and elderly voters (like myself)?

The fact is that those of us in this constituency who decline to vote Conservative are effectively disenfranchised.

So until we have some form of proportional representation our voting in national elections will be wasted.
