COUNCILLOR Tom Wells may consider a completely new M5 junction for Malvern a solution to A449 traffic congestion, but West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin demolishes such a facile idea, saying: “We need to be realistic about what is achievable.”

Why does he consider it necessary for traffic to speed along the A449 when the road infrastructure to generate, receive and disperse it within Malvern is so obviously inadequate?

The prospect of huge residential development at Newland, with only one access onto the A449, additional access onto A4103 being denied by planners, coupled with the continuing growth of the Malvern Link industrial and commercial zones, will sustain the imperative for vehicle movements along the existing A449-M5 axis into the foreseeable future.

Does Councillor Wells really believe that the massive road reorganisation necessary within and around Malvern to create an east-west corridor to the M5 is somehow the solution to Powick’s traffic problems?
