I CONFIRM disappointment that Worcester Chief Executive Officer cannot devote two days a week over the next six months to "achieve smarter and more commercial ways of managing public sector property to help taxpayers." I know it is difficult but I foolishly assumed that was why she was remunerated on a par with our Prime Minister even when you add on his proposed 10 per cent increase! I see now where her talent lies. You select a comfortably off retired former Council pensioner - chuck him £36,000 - he does it for you and hey presto it only costs £270 a week. That's £14,000 a year by the way.

On the other hand since we are content to pay £100,000 or so every week to someone to kick a football or distribute largesse to a Police Crime commissioner to do - well I am not quite sure what - then surely one can make a case for saying that to give a modest £7,000 per annum to a hard working MP, who apparently does not want it but must receive it, is not a bad deal.

I worked in the private sector and thus spent mine rather than someone else's money. I am quite prepared to accept this may cloud my objective judgement.
