THE letter from Kate Chester-Lamb (August 15) complains of the noise generated by the 'Big Chill' event recently at Eastnor.
It is obvious from her remarks that she wishes Malvern and surrounding areas to remain firmly in the past, and she has predicted that she will be called a 'miserable kill joy'.
What she fails to realise it seems is the benefit this event, and others like it, bring to the local economy, helping local shop keepers, tradesmen, taxi drivers etc. all of whom make up the community that we live in.
As I understand it, the Hervey-Bathurst family (owners of Eastnor Castle) get no external financial support to provide for the upkeep of the castle. They therefore have to generate the necessary funding themselves.
The events held in the grounds throughout the year make a valuable contribution to the upkeep of this fine facility, I suspect, and I for one appreciate that.
For most days of the year, we can all wander the castle grounds completely without charge, allowing us to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding countryside.
Life today, as in the past, requires an element of compromise. Perhaps Kate Chester-Lamb would care to reflect on that.
