MR Nesbit is wrong to blame MHDC for new yellow lines at the British Camp end of Jubilee Drive. They are the responsibility of the Highway Authority, in this case Herefordshire (County) Council. They are there to avoid the congestion caused by people parking there - whether or not they are avoiding the parking charges of the two car parks in the vicinity. West Mercia Police will usually respond to genuine complaints of non-observance of yellow lines.
If Mr Nesbitt goes along to the Colwall side of the Wyche Cutting he will see yellow lines along Jubilee Drive which are well established and respected. He will also see there is still free parking along West Malvern Road immediately to the north west of the Cutting, which disproves the contention that lines are painted specifically to force drivers into paying car parks.
CHRIS CHEESEMAN, Malvern Hills District Council Councillor (Malvern Wells) and Malvern Hills Conservators Board Member.
