Not illegal

GARDEN bonfires are not illegal (M Sheridan’s letter, April 6) and are not covered by any smokeless zone legislation.

If the same person has fires on a regular basis, or if he/she is burning other than garden waste, they should be reported to the local Environmental Health Officer at the Council.

Garden bonfires are far less toxic than car exhausts taking old wood etc to Bilford Road tip.
