Café appreciated

FURTHER to Simon Vaughan- Spencer’s wish for a café at the Beacon (April 20), there is nothing to stop the provision of such a facility which would be greatly appreciated by the public.

Section 4 of The Malvern Hills Act 1955 says: “They (the conservators) may grant leave or licence for any period not exceeding one year... to erect, maintain and operate temporary or mobile stalls... on the Malvern Hills for the purpose of purveying food and refreshment to the public...”

I am sure there are entrepreneurs who would relish a licence to run such a facility.

This would generate an income for the conservators, thus relieving the burden on those paying the conservators’ precept which increased by nearly five per cent this year.
