RATHER than rely on the opinions of protestors, I went to a performance of Circus Mondao, and visited the animals’ quarters afterwards.
The animals were comfortable, settled, and in good condition.
They were not tethered. The following day, these animals were grazing on the Three Counties showground.
The owners clearly spend time and effort training and caring for their animals which behaved well in the ring and seemed happy to be there.
These were not wild animals, but included well-trained dogs, horses, llamas and ponies.
I have seen other circuses in the past and always viewed their animals’ living quarters carefully, and not seen any problems.
I do not like the way that the protestors twist facts to create a distorted impression about an organisation that didn’t apply in this case – touring circuses, including this one, are inspected by several organisations including the RSPCA who were happy with the animal welfare issues.
