A jolly Jubilee
10:20am Sunday 17th June 2012 in Letters
I WANTED to pass on my thanks to everyone who contributed to the magnificent Jubilee celebrations in Herefordshire.
There is so much to congratulate Her Majesty the Queen on and I felt that we did so here in style.
But as well as to the Queen, our gratitude must also go to the thousands of people who put a huge amount of time, thought and effort into ensuring that their communities enjoyed every moment of these special celebrations.
Ledbury Deanery organised the most delightful service, lunch and entertainment at the Rugby Club. On Friday I visited Westfield School in Leominster, where we sang Gary Barlow’s specially commissioned song, before witnessing a mouth-watering lunch for the children assembled by local parents.
I had a wonderful Jubilee breakfast in Bromyard and also the privilege of hearing the famous Tarrington Brass in their own village hall. Joining the amazing parade in Colwall, where someone had taken the trouble to knit red, white and blue decorations to adorn the traffic lights and post box.
Everything that is good about being British and living in Herefordshire was brought together last weekend in a display of loyalty and patriotism.
Having been in Ledbury to welcome the Olympic flame to our area, and with the Games themselves still to come, it is clear that 2012 is more than living up to its billing as a year to remember.
