Not that bad

I WAS puzzled by the contrast between the headlines and the actual activities proven against Richard Dawe.

Undoubtedly, “hitting someone with a shovel”

and an “assault with a walking stick” need proper action but a fine would appear more appropriate, preferably passed on to the victim. Almost everything else reported appears to be a matter of opinion and the three months to be served in will prison cost about £12,000.

The punishment does not appear to fit the crime and it is no wonder that our prison population is so high compared with the rest of Europe.
