NEWENT'S fourth annual big lunch will take place this Sunday, (June 18), by the side of Newent Lake, just in time for Father's Day.

And any disagreements between children and parents can be sorted out as ever, with the use of stocks and wet sponges.

The event has been organised by Newent and District Rotary Club and proceeds will go to the Meningitis Now charity.

A spokesman said: "Our theme this year is Hawaiian, so come along in your best Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts, impress us all, and have some real Sunday afternoon fun."

Entrance will be free, but fundraising activities will include a raffle, and the spokesman added: "There will be even more stalls, activities and music than before."

The Master of Ceremonies will be the local poet Samantha Samms, who is now a published poet and has already appeared in numerous poetry festivals.

The spokesman added: "In response to a number of requests there will be a pig roast this year for all those who forgot to bring their sandwiches and also drinks will be available.

"The activities will be highlighted during the afternoon by The Big Red Bus, supplied by the Rotary Club, and we will have dancing from the wonderful Strawberry Hill Dancers.

As it will be Father's Day and taking in the Hawaiian theme there will be a special dads and daughters/sons Hula Hoop Challenge so lets see who we can declare the best ‘Hula-Hooper’ in Newent for 2017."

As well as the pig roast and dancing there will be music supplied by a number of different acts and which will be supplied courtesy of the Soundscape Community Music Association.
