A MAN was left with severe facial injuries after a suspected assault in Newent in the early hours of Tuesday.
The man sustained what police describe as "unexplained but nasty" injuries to his face, including multiple fractures to his cheekbone and eye socket, which required hospital treatment.
The previous evening, the man had been at the Circle Club in Broad Street and then gone to a friend's house to play cards. He left the friend's house to go home at around 3am to 3.30am.
A police spokesman said: "At some point during his walk home, between the George Hotel and Culver Street, we believe he was assaulted by an unknown offender.
"We'd like to hear from anyone who witnessed or heard anything in the area in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Please call 101 quoting incident number 441 of September 5."
