BOSBURY Primary is marking its 50th anniversary this year, and pupils and staff want to make a big noise about it, with the help of the local community.

The school has been busy fundraising and has recently secured a Big Lottery Grant of £9500 for a Community Drumming Group, which will assist with celebrations.

Head teacher, Maggie Spence said: "The drumming group is for the local community for one year. The group is open to any residents in the village and school children who come and learn with a parent. The group has been a massive success so far and still has space for more people.

“The school is fifty this year so we hope the drumming group will play at the celebrations. All you need to attend is enthusiasm. No previous experience is needed."

Youngsters at the primary, however, are no strangers to music, because every child plays an instrument at Bosbury School every day.

All children begin their day playing and already the staff are noticing a difference to motivation and enjoyment. Each class has a full set of either ukuleles, ocarinas, or recorders.

Music teacher, Sue Walker said: "I am thrilled by the noticeable difference to the children's self-esteem."

Miss Spence added: “It is lovely to hear music first thing in the morning. The concentration on 147 faces is amazing.

"Research with a university is being carried out to track effectiveness and impact on other parts of the day and curriculum. We decided that all children should have equal access to music whilst at school.

"The music teacher supports non specialist teachers to deliver the daily lessons."
