SOME of the great and good from UK rugby will come to Ledbury Rugby Club this Saturday, (January 6), to raise funds for the Doddie Weir Trust.

The club, off the Ross Road, will be the destination for a twelve mile walk, from Upton Rugby Club, and one of the day's highlights will be the auction of signed rugby shirts, including England, Bath, Worcester Warriors and Gloucester RFC shirts, to help raise funds for the trust set up by the former international, Doddie Weir.

A former Scotland player and British and Irish Lion. Mr Weir, 47, started the Doddie Weir’5 Trust after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease, last year.

The walk from Upton RFC, Old Street, to Ledbury RFC, Ross Road, and auction have been organised by his Hanley Swan-based former club and international team-mate Peter Walton.

Mr Walton, along with five friends and family, will do the walk and then hold an auction of signed Premiership rugby shirts following Ledbury’s home fixture against Shipston-on-Stour.

Mr Walton said: "Walton said: “Doddie and I played together at Newcastle when we won the Premiership, and for Scotland on many occasions.

“We became and stayed very close friends so when I heard about his diagnosis I felt I wanted to organise something to raise money for his newly-founded trust. The walk and the auction will hopefully raise a few pounds."

The walkers are expected to arrive at Ledbury in time for lunch.

Ross Moriarty should be there by 1.30pm.

The auction is expected to take place at 5pm.
