A FLOWER Festival in Ledbury Parish Church will celebrate the work and success of the Ledbury Poetry Festival, and the joy of verse.

The Poetry in Flowers attraction will run over four days from May 25 to May 28, and designs "will interpret well-known poems".

The event's publicity officer, Chris Lynch said: "The brief is to stage a wonderful array of floral displays with a theme and organisers chose poetry to tie in with Ledbury’s Poetry Festival.

"Proceeds will be divided equally between supporting the work of St Michaels Hospice and the Friends of Ledbury Parish Church."

Local lady Margaret Chapman has been instrumental in choosing the poems and the locations for the arrangements.

The designer of the show, Gill Romanowski is chair of Ledbury and District Floral Art Club. She has been involved with flower arranging for many years and competes regularly at the RHS Malvern show.

Chris added: "More than thirty talented arrangers from will create the flower arrangements near and far.

"Refreshments will be available in the Chapter House during the Festival offering serving morning coffee, delicious home made cakes and cream teas. Programmes will be available to guide visitors around the church. It will also include information about each exhibit and details of dedications and sponsorship for the flower festival."

She added: "The town’s car parks are five minutes from the venue and disabled badge holders may park in the church grounds."

Viewing times on the Friday, Saturday and Monday will be 10.30am to 5pm. A service will take place at 9.30am on the Sunday, to which all visitors will be welcomed and the Festival will open at 11.30am on that day.

This year's Ledbury Poetry Festival will take place after the Poetry in Flowers event, from June 29 to July 8.
