THE minesweeper HMS Ledbury is on its way to the Mediterranean, to take part in NATO manoeuvres and to protect seaways.

The vessel was reported this week to be crossing the Bay of Biscay in choppy weather, on its way to Lisbon in Portugal.

Afterwards it will leave the Atlantic behind for a Mediterranean tour.

The ship’s company only returned from leave last week and had a very busy time with the eleventh-hour preparations for the trip.

Essential tasks including a complete re-stocking of the ammunition magazine.

The Hunt Class minesweeper will link up with German, Spanish, Dutch, French, Estonian, Italian and Belgium counterparts, while on patrol.
