WESTON’S of Much Marcle is achieving national recognition for its cattle as well as for its cider.

The family-owned firm is celebrating after winning the Tony Sargeant Memorial Cup from the Hereford Cattle Breeders’ Association for its pedigree herd of Hereford cattle.

The prestigious award is open to breeders throughout the UK.

It was judged by Donald Robbie, a top breeder from New Zealand.

Weston’s managing director, Helen Thomas said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this award.

“When my great grandfather came here in 1880, he was a tenant farmer and for many years the family bred Hereford cattle.

“In 2006 we decided to reintroduce them and now we have 14 breeding cows.”

Westons first stock bull, Dendor Cracker, arrived in April 2007.

Mrs Thomas added: “We really enjoyed selecting our breeding stock and we are currently developing the herd.

“We have already won three seconds at the Three Counties Show and we hope to attend more shows next year.”
