POLICE are linking a burglary at Dymock post office with robbery at Redmarley post office, where intruders attacked the postmaster with an iron bar.
Both incidents took place on Tuesday, August 5, and Detective Inspector Steve Porter of Gloucester CID said: “We are definitely treating these incidents as linked, as they happened a short distance apart from one another.”
He added: “These men went beyond committing a burglary, they attacked an innocent postmaster with an iron bar and it is fortunate that his injuries were not more serious.”
The burglary on Dymock post office was discovered by a local milkman doing his rounds at 4.10am.
He found that the door of the post office had been forced and the till had been raided.
Police believe that three men seen acting suspiciously a few days earlier, at the adjoining garage, may have been studying the layout of Dymock post office.
They were in a 7.5 tonne transporter with a white cab, on Friday, August 1.
Gloucestershire police have produced e-fits of two of the men.
The robbery at Redmarley Post Office took place shortly afterwards, at 4.25am.
The postmaster disturbed three men who were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.
They were probably all young and around 6ft tall.
One of the men came at the postmaster with an iron bar. The postmaster defended himself but suffered minor cuts and bruises.
The offender fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
The amount of cash taken in either of the raids has not been made public.
But Det Insp Porter said: “A reward of £5000 is being offered to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for this violent crime.”
Anyone with information should phone the police on 0845 090 1234, quoting incident 55 of August 5.
