Families out in force at carnival

FAMILIES were out in force at this year’s carnival as funfair rides, colourful stalls and costumes lit up Ledbury.

Ann Turner, from Ledbury, attended with her two grandchildren, Courtney and Liam Turner, aged nine and three, and enjoyed watching the colourful procession pass down the High Street.

She said: “I’ve been here every year since it started. My own children used to enter the floats but they’re all grown up now.

“We especially liked the float with the snow machine on it, and the French-themed float with can-can dancers.”

The theme of Countries of the World saw cowboys, Native Americans, Spaniards and bowler-hatted gents representing Great Britain all vying for attention from the back of the colourful lorries.

Other visitors sampled the delights of the trade stalls on offer, tucked into some classic carnival food or enjoyed one of the many funfair rides.

Mum Katherine Litchfield, from Birtsmorton, brought along her four-year-old daughter Isabelle who was enjoying a ride on a toy train ride.

She said: "We've not been to Ledbury Carnival before. Isabelle has loved it, she's been on a couple other rides today already."

Following the procession, the main street had a visit from a very recognisable star.

A Madonna tribute act performed in front of the crowds as mobile phones and cameras were held high to capture the action.

The Queen of Pop was followed by a tribute to pop star Shakira which rounded off a very successful day.
