LEDBURY’S John Masefield High School has been awarded the prestigious Artsmark Gold award.
The award, from Arts Council England, recognises schools that are committed to, and achieve excellence in, arts education.
A school must dedicate a minimum of 15 per cent of its curriculum teaching time to the arts to qualify for an Artsmark Gold.
Headteacher Andy Evans said: “I’m delighted that the Arts Council has recognised John Masefield’s dynamic arts education programme.
“Our students have really enjoyed working with specialist writers, painters and potters and I’d like to thank all our staff for their hard work in achieving this award.”
Alan Davey, the chief executive of Arts Council England, said: “Arts Council England is committed to great art for everyone and we believe that the earlier children are creatively inspired, the more likely they are to have a lifelong engagement with art.
“The award recognises John Masefield’s passion for the arts and belief in the power of creativity.”
