A COMMUNITY shop in Bishops Frome will celebrate its first birthday on Tuesday (February 23).
Villagers, headed by Wendy Roberts, opened up the shop in February 2009 as a reaction to the closure of the post office and general store.
The social enterprise, which is supported by Midwest Rural Enterprise CIC, acts as a hub for the community and is run for profit, with money being ploughed back into local projects such as the Internet Cafe and the Youth Club.
Mrs Roberts said: “It has been a fantastic year, we have had such a lot of support it is really heartwarming.”
To celebrate the shop’s anniversary there will be a local food market at Bishops Frome Village Centre on Saturday (February 27) between 9am and 1pm.
There will also be an event in the evening. between 7pm and 10pm, where local people can come together to share a meal with food and drink supplied by local producers in the village centre. Tickets for the evening meal, costing £10, can be purchased from the community shop.
