Children help to bring story books to life

HARRY Potter, Alice in Wonderland and Angelina Ballerina were just a few of the familiar faces who turned up for lessons on a very special day at the Ann Cam Primary School in Dymock.

Pupils dressed up as their favourite book characters to mark World Book Day, and in doing so raised money for Book Aid International, a charity that sends books to Africa.

Headteacher Chris Ward started the day by leading a lively assembly during which he showed children some of his own favourite books.

He said: “Reading is an extremely important focus within Ann Cam, and allowing the children to dress as their favourite story character really does help books come to life.”

Parents also got involved by helping with costumes while one, Hilary Ruck, even baked a ‘Gruffalo’ cake for the pupils to enjoy.
