Man is arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after house crash

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a car crashed into a house in Staunton, near Newent, on Tuesday night.

A red Nissan Micra left the road, travelled across a front garden, ran over a fir tree and hit the front door and wall of a property in Chartist Piece at about 10.50pm.

The residents were unhurt but have been moved to alternative accommodation after a structural engineer was called in to assess the damage.

The driver of the car suffered a cut to his face and was treated by the ambulance service. Firefighters from Newent and Tewkesbury spent hours isolating electrics and using props to ensure the house was safe.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to call 101, quoting incident 480 of March 27.
