EASTNOR Primary believes it is the first school in Herefordshire to organise a fundraising “Race for Life”

event, on behalf of Cancer Research.

The event has been organised because a much-loved teacher, Sarah Tart is currently battling cancer and is away from school while undergoing treatment.

Deputy head Nikki Jenkins said: “This amazing morning of fun and fund-raising will help us to raise money for the Cancer Research UK charity and has been be organised by our very own school council.

“They discussed many different fund-raising ideas, but they felt that this charity was especially important to the school this year.

“Mrs Tart, one of our wonderful teachers, has been greatly missed in school while she has been having treatment for cancer.

“We believe she will love the idea of this event.

“We hope we can make as much money as possible for this most worthwhile charity.”

Up to 100 pupils and parents are expected to take part on Friday, June 15, from 9.30am, and they will be busy collecting sponsorship pledges from now.

Race for Life is Cancer Research’s UK flagship event, and more than 240 official races are expected to take place for the charity in the UK, during 2012. The charity’s message is “Walk, Jog or Run to Beat Cancer”.
