Schoolchildren challenged to turn inventor
10:10am Saturday 16th June 2012 in News
LEDBURY’S MP Bill Wiggin is challenging schoolchildren to turn inventor and come up with ideas for gadgets, gizmos and toys.
He has written to schools encouraging pupils aged 13-16 to take part in the ‘We Made It!’ competition being held in North Herefordshire.
Winners of this local competition will go forward to a second, nationwide stage.
It is there that panelists, including representatives from Boeing and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, will look at entrants.
Six of the best entrants will also be invited a ‘Fab Lab’ to see their designs brought to life.
Mr Wiggin will accompany North Herefordshire’s winner to a reception and awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament.
“Manufacturing makes a vital contribution to the British economy,” said Mr Wiggin.
“It is extremely important that we tackle the negative perceptions surrounding this dynamic sector and demonstrate to young people how intensely exciting, and rewarding, a career in manufacturing can be.
“I look forward to seeing what Herefordshire’s brightest and best have to offer.”
