GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S largest one-day festival, the annual Newent Onion Fayre, will take place this year on Saturday, September 8, with the highlight being the world-famous onion-eating competition.
The ladies’ record for eating a five ounce onion is held by Janet Schmulevitch, who has managed to polish one off in two minutes and seven seconds.
The men’s record, for the total consumption of a seven ounce onion, is held by Sean Wozencraft, with an amazing time of 59 seconds.
The chomping competition will take place on the grand stage in the town centre, at 1pm.
But the fayre, which often attracts way in excess of 10,000 people, will kick off at 10am.
Live music will be provided by performers such as the Rowing Crows, Keep it Cash, Otis Mack and the Tubby Bluesters.
There will be over 100 stands and exhibitors.
