EMPLOYEES of Lloyds Banking Group joined forces with Worcester City Council to plant a tree in Worcester this month.

The London plane tree was planted at King George V playing fields on Wednesday (November 19), as part of the Trees for Cities programme.

Twenty-six new trees supplied by the Trees for Cities charity will be planted around Worcester through the initiative.

Councillor Andy Roberts, cabinet member for a cleaner and greener city at Worcester City Council, said: "Planting the right tree in the right place is a wonderful thing to do because it will be appreciated in its maturity after you have gone.

"It's also a real responsibility because the tree must be right for its setting.

"Local people really treasure the city's trees; it is the amount of greenery in and around the city centre which makes Worcester so attractive.

"Our long-standing partnership with Trees for Cities will help to ensure that our city remains green and pleasant for many more generations to come."

The city council has been working with Trees for Cities, a charity which partners with communities to plant trees, for four years.

Each tree planted as part of the scheme will have a soil conditioner, watering tubes and cages to protect them in their first five years of development.
