ST Mary’s and All Saints Church was at the centre of a celebration last week, when people from churches in Kidderminster joined together to commission the new Kidderminster Ismere Parish Team.

The seven churches of the team include St Barnabas, Holy Trinity, St John’s, St Mary and All Saints, St Oswald, St Peter’s in Cookley and St Peter’s in Wolverley.

Church leaders from other denominations attended the service, joining with other friends, including the Mayor of Kidderminster, Councillor Mike Price.

The Bishop of Dudley, Rt. Reverend Graham Usher led the service and archdeacon, venerable Nikki Groarke shared with the congregation her sermon based on Christians being living stones of a church. During the service, the Lay Ministers and clergy of all seven churches received a blessing and commissioning. The rector of the Kidderminster Ismere team, the Reverend Rose Lawley, began her term of office in January as the first woman rector.

The Kidderminster Ismere Parish team is looking forward to a busy year as 2015 is the 700th anniversary of the consecration of the High Altar at St Mary’s in 1315 and in November they will be celebrating the 400 year anniversary of the birth of Richard Baxter, a pastor and author, who was a renowned preacher at St Mary’s for nearly 19 years.
