SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has confirmed Stourbridge’s flagship Extra store is not among the 43 earmarked for closure.

Bosses this week told the News the 60,000 sq ft ring road facing store, which opened in the town's revamped Crown Centre just 15 months ago, has not been put onto the chain's closure list.

A Tesco spokesman simply said: “I can confirm the Stourbridge store is not on the list.”

Supermarket bosses have previously told the News the town centre store's first year of trading went "really well" and that they'd made "the right choice to come to Stourbridge".

Other Tesco stores across the Dudley borough also look to have escaped the axe.
