HUNDREDS of pounds was raised at a sale held in Kempsey to help children in Syria.

The fundraising event, which raised a total of £261, was put on by the Kempsey branch of Save the Children on Saturday morning.

A number of stalls were set up in St Mary's House in the village and lots of villagers came along to raise money for the charity while also enjoying cakes, tombola and the raffle.

Heather Davies, one of the organisers from the charity, said: "The money raised will go to Save the Children and towards specific projects they offer.

"We have been very busy today, it seems to appealed to different people this time as well. People are very good, they want to do good."

Julia Grant, who is also behind the event, added: "We have seen some different people today, it's nice to see new faces from the village."
