QUICK-thinking bank staff informed police in Warwickshire after an unusually large amount of cash was requested to be withdrawn from an elderly lady's account.

Sergeant Alison Wiggin of Warwickshire Police said as a result local police were able to intercept and arrest two suspects.

It is a well practised scam where a fraudster telephones a victim claiming to be from the bank or the police. They tell you your cards have been used fraudulently and ask you to ring the police to verify this; however they remain on the time and it is the scammers who ask for your PIN and confirm your identity.

"Do not give out your PIN or bank details over the phone. You should never be asked to divulge this information," said Sgt Wiggin.

"If you have been a victim of this type of crime call 101 or if you would simply like to get some crime prevention advice surrounding this issue, take a look at the Warwickshire Police Website and contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team."
