A REDDITCH youngster is competing in a national competition alongside his band to win a £100,000 recording contract.

Bassist Charlie Brooks alongside his band, The Purple Shades, has entered a competition entitled A Brand New Artist for Christmas 2015.

The band, which includes lead singer and guitarist Dylan Boddy, drummer Sam Hennerley and lead guitarist George Bowles, released their first album Wit of the Staircase in September 2014.

The group recently played at the O2 Academy in Birmingham and have schedule of gigs and festivals planned for this year.

The Purple Shades are supported by the M.A.S RECORDS an organisation founded by Band of Joy’s Kevyn Gammond and Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant.

The winners, who will receive an agreement Negart Records, will be the centre of a campaign to top the charts over Christmas and a top 10 hit in the Official UK Singles Chart is likely.
