TWO former marines jumped their way through an exercise challenge to raise money for charity.

Former Royal Marine Commandos James Grant and Stuart Elwell persevered through 1,664 burpees to raise funds for the Royal Marines Ultra-Fit Association in aid of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund in front of crowds at Pershore Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday.

The 37-year-olds completed the jump squats in four hours overall, doing 832 burpees each.

Mr Grant, who lives in Worcester, said: "I completed my set in two hours and 28minutes, and Stuart did it in just under the four hour mark. We have both been overwhelmed by the support that we received both before, during and after the challenge.

"Our training involved more than eight weeks of preparation and conditioning the body with various training methods which include Kettle Bells, circuit training and running. Over this training period, we integrated over 17,000 burpees into our training. We are chuffed to have achieved our goal and so far have managed to raise £1,749.43 for the charity. Despite all the conditioning and training, following Monday, we both feel extremely sore and are in much need of well deserved rest. Words cannot describe how grateful both Stuart and I are for the support and kind donations."
