A WOMAN who finished treatment for breast cancer just 18 months ago is taking on a 350km cycling challenge.

Bella Brown, 54, from Much Dewchurch is cycling the distance over three days in the South of France, to raise money for St James' Place Foundation.

The foundation provides funding to charities for children, cancer and hospices, including the Yeleni Support Centre in Hereford, Megan Baker House in Leominster; and Jamie’s Farm in Rowlestone.

She completed treatment for grade three breast cancer 18 months ago which included surgery, 18 weeks of chemotherapy and 23 days of radiotherapy.

The former county hospital/Wye Valley NHS Trust non-executive director said about the diagnosis: "I felt like I'd been dropped off a cliff and I was fortunate to have had an early diagnosis, great treatment and to have recovered.

"My experience and recovery were transformed by the additional support I had from various charities in the form of advice, consultation, therapies and integrated care, all gently and generously provided in the most supportive, understanding manner.

"Many of these charities are running on empty much of the time, dependant on volunteer workers and the generosity of funding bodies, such as the St James's Place Foundation."

She’s funded the cost of the trip herself so all sponsorship goes to the charity.

St James’s Place Wealth Management will match fund all the sponsorship Mrs Brown raises.

The highlight of the challenge, which starts tomorrow, is Mont Ventoux- allegedly the hardest of all the mythical Tour de France climbs- this mountain stands at 1,912m tall.
