A WOLVERLEY tennis club will be taking part in a 24 hour marathon to help raise much needed funds for facilities and boost membership.

Wolverley Tennis, which is based near the village’s Memorial Hall, will start the event at 12noon on Saturday (August 1) before finishing at 12noon the next day.

Current members will take part while possible future members are invited to take part.

The club are looking to raise money to pay for new coaching equipment to run sessions for youngsters and provide new fencing around the courts.

Event organiser Ota Hedervary said: “For some time the club has been struggling to maintain its existence and therefore I have organised a 24 hour tennis marathon in order to raise money for the club and to gain more members.

“Donations are very much appreciated and will make a real difference, our club is one of the very few sporting facilities in Wolverley and tennis is a sport which everyone can play and enjoy.

“The money raised will go towards new fencing which is at the moment falling down at places and coaching equipment for kids.

“There is a primary school nearby with many kids interested in playing tennis but we are not able to organise anything due to lack of equipment and having the right facilities such as working toilets.

“The tennis club is run by volunteers and we are desperate for help to keep the club moving forward. Wolverley has a great community and we are part of it.”

The club has set up a donation page for anyone wishing to support them and this can be accessed by visiting: http://gogetfunding.com/wolverley-24-hour-tennis-marathon/
