ALZHEIMER'S Society is holding a special coffee morning to enable members of the public to learn more about a new service for people with dementia in Droitwich.

The event on Wednesday, July 29, from 10am to 12.30pm will celebrate the Meeting Centre - described as an "innovative service for those with mild and moderate dementia" - which will officially open its doors in September.

The Meeting Centre, the first of its kind in the UK, will bring together a range of services in an accessible community venue.

Gill Read, services manager for Alzheimer's Society in Worcestershire, said: "Alzheimer’s Society is thrilled to be the implementation partner for the UK’s first Meeting Centre.

"We will be delivering the adaptation coping model, as used across the Netherlands, to ensure that people with dementia and their carers receive support around all the ways dementia affects life, not just the health of the individual with the condition.

"Dementia is not a natural part of ageing and initiatives such as the Meeting Centre allow us to fully support a person and their family and, ultimately, create more dementia friendly communities where people with dementia and their carers feel included in society."
