TRAGICALLY taken in a suspected hit and run, Matthew Cullum's loved ones have paid tribute to the "wonderful family man" who "will be sadly missed".

The body of the 36-year-old was discovered in Hillary Road, Stourport, at 4am on Saturday (August 29) after having possibly been hit up to four hours before.

Paramedics attended, but Mr Cullum, who worked as a data control operative in the Kidderminster area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement from the victim's family said how Mr Cullum would be missed.

It said: "Matthew was tragically taken from us. Many people have lost the opportunity to share in the exciting times that lay ahead.

"A great character and wonderful family man, he will be sadly missed and the family would like to thank everyone for the kind messages. This is an extremely challenging time and we ask you respect the family's privacy over the forthcoming weeks."

The tragic death comes seven years after Mr Cullum had a life-changing motorcycle crash in Stourport.

The rider broke his neck and spent two weeks in a coma at Selly Oak Hospital where he was airlifted by Midlands Air Ambulance. He had to undergo several operations and, although he recovered well enough to go back to work and continue his life with his family and fiancé Clair Price, as a result of the smash he lost the use of his left arm.

Miss Price arranged a charity event at he Bay Horse pub in 2011 to raise money for two charities, one being the Midlands Air Ambulance, because she credits them with saving her partner's life that day.

After ambulance crews were unable to save Mr Cullum this time after the suspected hit and run on Saturday, an appeal for witnesses was issued by West Mercia Police, and on Saturday evening, a 22-year-old man from Kidderminster handed himself in to police. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been bailed until November 7 while investigations continue.

PC Lee Baker said the force were still looking to speak to people in connection with the incident, especially anyone who may have seen a dark-coloured Nissan Skyline in the area between 12am and 4am.

He said: "We had a huge response to our appeal on Saturday and I would like to thank everyone who shared this and provided information.

"We're continuing to investigate the circumstances of Mr Cullum's death and appeal for witnesses or anyone with information that may help the investigation to come forward. We are especially keen to speak to anyone who saw a dark coloured Nissan Skyline being driven around the Hillary Road area between 12am and 4am on Saturday.

"The thoughts of the investigation team are with Mr Cullum's family at this time. They are currently being supported by specialist officers and I would also ask that their privacy be respected while they come to terms with their loss."

Anyone with information that may help with the investigation should call the non-emergency police number on 101 and quote reference 112s of 29th August 2015. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
