A KIDDERMINSTER school’s early years team have won a top award at the education “Oscars”.

Franche Community Primary School’s early year team were named the best in the country, as well as being highly commended in two other categories at the Nursery World Awards in London, coming runner-up in the search for the best pre-school and best nursery manager.

Val Weddell-Hall, headteacher, said: “We know our nursery and early years is outstanding and gives children an excellent start to their school life, but to be recognised at this level is just wonderful.

“I am so thrilled for our fantastic early team, particularly head of early years, Lizzie Lazenby, and nursery manager, Jane Bulmer, who work tirelessly to help every child learn, take on challenges and have fun.”

Miss Lazenby said it was an incredible accolade to receive.

She added: “We have a brilliant team of staff who always go beyond what is expected of them to ensure every child has the best possible experience.

“We also work very closely with our parents and we love that the judges acknowledged that partenership.”

Nursery manager, Jane Bulmer, gained a highly commended award in the category of nursery manager of the year, with judges praising her dedication, energy and commitment to working with parents and children.

The school, in Chestnut Grove, was also highly commended in the category of pre-school of the year.

In its award citation judges praised the school’s “close knit and passionate” early years team who work together to help children overcome significant challenges at all levels of care and learning.
