WYRE Forest is set to get creepy as the district council hosts a series of spooky events this Halloween.

Swamp Foot is set to return this year on Tuesday, October 27, at Burlish Top Nature Reserve, where explorers are challenged to make their way through the forest without bumping into the dreaded Swamp Foot along the way.

The hour long sessions for children aged between nine and 13 will take place at 5.30pm and 7pm, and outdoor clothes and sensible shoes are recommended.

Those who dare to be scared are asked to meet at Burlish Top car park, off the Kingsway.

If you’re feeling brave, you can come along to this year’s Spooky Woodland Trail on Thursday, October 29, taking place in Habberley Valley Nature Reserve.

Children aged between five and 10 can join the rangers on a guided walk through the forest with owls and bats for company.

You can take part in apple bobbing, doughnut dunking and listen to tales in the woodland camp, with two one hour long sessions starting at 5.30pm and 7pm.

Fancy dress is welcome – there will be a prize for the spookiest outfit – and sensible shoes are recommended. The car park will act as the meeting point, and barbecue food and drinks will be available to buy.

Anyone wanting to take part in one of these activities will need to book online or call 01562 732975. Swamp Foot costs £4 and Spooky Woodland Trail is £2.50. Children on the woodland trail must be accompanied by a fee paying adult.

Bewdley Museum will continue the string of events on Saturday, October 31, with Nightmare at the Museum between 5.30pm and 9pm.

This year’s theme is ‘Family Fright Night’ with a live Halloween show from 6pm to 7pm, followed by a disco until 9pm.

There will be all sorts of Halloween games on offer, a spooky trail around the museum and fancy dress competitions. Tickets are £3 per person or £10 a family ticket.

Councillor Sally Chambers, Wyre Forest District Council cabinet member for health, well-being and housing, said: “This is a great chance for children to explore nature at night time and have a fun Halloween in a safe environment.

“The rangers team and Bewdley Museum always put on fantastic events and they are very popular.

“If you are thinking about joining in, I would recommend booking a place soon.”
